The UMi 17X packs strain wave gearing and a modern control stack into a 4.3 kg mount head built for travel and compact observatories. It aims to give astrophotographers a lightweight, transportable imaging platform with guided long-exposure capability and a range of connectivity options for computer control.

Despite a 4.3 kg mount head, the UMi 17X supports 12 kg of imaging gear without a counterweight and up to 18 kg when using a counterweight. This lets you mount small refractors or medium-sized imaging rigs while keeping the overall setup lighter for transport and field work.
Dual servo motors with strain wave gearing provide high torque, low backlash motion and are tuned for imaging. Factory-tested periodic error is ±10 arc-seconds, a specification that supports guided long exposures and reduces the work your autoguider must do.
Built on the OnStepX control system, the mount offers USB-C, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ST4 and a dedicated UMi Mount app for computer-controlled workflows. Physical home sensors, an adjustable RA limit sensor, RA electromagnetic braking and dual-axis anti-collision protection help make automated imaging runs safer and repeatable.
The UMi 17X supports up to 12 kg of payload without a counterweight, and up to 18 kg when used with a counterweight.
The UMi 17X uses the OnStepX control system and provides USB-C, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ST4 and support for the UMi Mount app. It also lists electronic polar scope support for iPolar and PoleMaster.
