A unified optical layout combines a triplet objective with a crescent-shaped field flattener to deliver a native flat field across a 44 mm image circle. That means full-frame cameras can reach the edges of the frame at prime focus without separate flatteners in many setups.
The front lens group uses two ED glass elements to improve chromatic control and deliver finer star images and better color correction than a simple achromat. This helps keep stars tight across the field and reduces the need for aggressive post-processing to remove color fringing.
With an 86 mm aperture and 602 mm focal length at f/7, the 86MA strikes a balance between wide-field framing and resolution. The f/7 ratio makes focusing less demanding than faster astrographs while still giving good plate scale for detail on small telescopes and larger sensors.
A 3.2-inch dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser with 85 mm travel provides precise focusing and fine adjustments, while the rear flange offers M63, M54, M48 and 2-inch interfaces for cameras, reducers and visual accessories. Tube rings, a dovetail plate and carry bag are included for transport and mounting.
